The British Formula 4 Championship heads to Thruxton this weekend for three thrilling races on the fastest UK circuit on the schedule. With a lap that’s virtually full-throttle, our three racers – Deagen Fairclough, Reza Seewooruthun and Mika Abrahams – are gearing up for what’s set to be an action-packed weekend. And for once, the forecast looks good too…
Deagen heads to the Hampshire speed bowl as the British F4 Championship leader and the 18-year-old holds a 35-point lead at the top of the drivers’ standings. With three wins and five other podiums so far this year, Deagen has been the early pacesetter and is looking to build on his points lead at Thruxton.
“I can’t wait to take to the track at the high-speed Thruxton circuit,” said Deagen. “It’s going to be a weekend with lots of slipstreaming, overtaking and plenty of action – and thankfully the weekend forecast looks dry. With the pace of our Hitech GP car, that’s the perfect conditions for us to hopefully have another successful three races.”
It’s a close battle behind Deagen in the standings as Reza sits sixth on 53 points, just one place – and four points – ahead of Mika. Thruxton is a race Reza is looking forward to, as it’s a home track for the Dorset man, who has family connections to the tiny island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean.
“I’m feeling confident going into my home race,” said Reza. “Hitech GP have a very good track record there with pole and race wins from previous years. My pace has been strong in testing so I just need to piece it together and deliver a strong result.”
Rounds 10, 11 and 12 at the 2.36-mile Thruxton track will offer the usual exciting battles as the drivers bravely round high-speed Church corner and vie for position under braking for the last-corner chicane. Located five miles west of Andover, the flat terrain of the former airfield perimeter course often means Thruxton is susceptible to the elements.
“It’s a track that demands bravery and skill,” adds Mika. “It’s always an exciting venue and the opportunity to pass means that the reverse grid race can lead to plenty of action. All three of us will be maximising our weekend as we want Hitech GP to close that 16.5 point gap at the top of the teams’ standings.”
British F4 qualifying is on Saturday morning (June 8) at 11.05-11.25 with the first 20-minute race at 4.30pm. Race two is at 1pm on Sunday followed by the final round of the weekend at 4.30pm.
