Hitech GP join Formula 4 in 2022
A new second generation of FIA F4 machines, fitted with the halo cockpit protection device, will come on stream for next year. This follows the announcement that British governing body Motorsport UK will be taking the reins of the championship for 2022, implementing a review of changes to coincide with the adoption of the new car.
British F4 is widely regarded as the most competitive junior category single seater championship in the world. Whilst no official calendar has been announced yet, the 2022 championship is likely to feature 10 rounds, running as a support category for TOCA.
“This is a natural step for us to be able to offer drivers to remain with Hitech from their first steps in auto racing from karting, all the way through the ranks with us through F2, F3 and into Formula 1”, says Hitech’s Founder Oliver Oakes.
Over the years, we have had a few tie ups with different F4 outfits, but it made sense with the F4 Gen 2 rules coming next season to finally build up the programme ourselves internally.”
The team’s roster of Formula 4 drivers will have the opportunity to race overseas, coinciding with their British campaign, with Hitech joining forces with Cram Motorsport in UAE F4 to coincide with their Italian F4 campaign. The working partnership comes as a “natural fit” since Hitech’s Founder, Oliver Oakes, has known the Cram/Rosei family for over 15 years.
On the tie up he added, “With the Gen 2 Formula 4 car breaking on the scene, I felt the partnership was a natural fit for us, not only because I have known and worked closely with the Rosei family for many years, but it also allows both of our organisations to combine resources across the board for the UAE F4 Championship.
This means we can share staff and our pool of cars in the off season, whilst being able to give young drivers further racing and testing mileage. We will also be able to continue making preparations for both our respective main championships.”
“Being where we are based in the UK means it would logistically be impossible to enter of the Formula 4 Championships outside the UK so it’s great to link up with Cram and be able to offer something for our drivers that want to go and race overseas in Formula 4.”
