As they head into the final round of the Formula Winter Series in Barcelona this weekend, Hitech TGR aim to end pre-season on a high. Fionn McLaughlin sits second in the standings and is targeting the overall Rookie title.
After securing two stunning victories for Hitech last Sunday at MotorLand Aragón, Fionn needs just two points to be crowned top rookie of the 2025 Formula Winter Series. The Red Bull Junior Team driver has claimed five Rookie Class victories and has only once finished off the podium in class across the nine races held so far. His closest challenger for rookie honours is his Hitech team-mate, Thomas Bearman.
After qualifying on the front row for Race 3 in Aragón last weekend, Thomas is looking to close the 80-point gap to his team-mate. “I’ve had five podiums in the Rookie Class — and one win — so I’m hoping to finish the pre-season Formula Winter Series on a high,” said the British driver. “It was a tricky weekend in Aragón, especially in the wet/dry conditions of the final race, and I’m looking forward to competing at the high-speed Barcelona circuit this weekend.”
After scoring just eight points in Aragón, Leo Robinson will be aiming to finish the Formula Winter Series on a strong note. He’s scored five podiums overall — including one victory — and sits on 106 points, just eight behind Hitech team-mate Fionn. Leo celebrated his 16th birthday at MotorLand Aragón and is looking forward to tackling the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
“It’s great that the Formula Winter Series is competing on a circuit which features heavily on the junior motorsport ladder, and which is the home of the Spanish Grand Prix,” said Leo. “It’s a track I know well from the simulator and it should offer plenty of exciting racing.”
Having secured seven wins in the Female Trophy, Nina Gademan will miss the final round of the Formula Winter Series due to a clash with the F1 Academy test. Taking over her Hitech seat for the Barcelona weekend will be Emily Cotty. The 15-year-old racer has hot-footed it over from Qatar, where she was competing in the Formula 4 event supporting the opening round of the FIA World Endurance Championship. Hailing from Chichester in West Sussex, Emily has progressed from karting into single-seaters over the past year and will be relishing the chance to race on the Spanish Grand Prix circuit.
Following six test sessions on Thursday and Friday, competitive action begins with Qualifying on Saturday morning in Barcelona. Race 1 takes place at 14:05 local time, with two more races scheduled for Sunday at 09:15 and 15:50 local time. Fans can catch all the action on the series’ official YouTube channel.
