The second round of the Formula Winter Series kicks off in Valencia this coming weekend with Hitech TGR aiming to continue their winning start to the season. Leo Robinson sits second in the standings, just one point ahead of rookie Fionn McLaughlin, who made an impressive debut last time out.
After a successful first outing for Hitech at Portimão, the Silverstone-based team are set to compete at the 4km Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, the next venue in this year’s Formula 4-spec Formula Winter Series.
Victory last time out for Ireland’s Fionn McLaughlin has put the rookie third in the Drivers’ standings, just one point behind his Hitech team-mate Leo Robinson. The pair claimed three podiums between them, with Leo taking two second-place finishes while Fionn won the final race in the Algarve. Nina Gademan dominated the Female Trophy category with three wins, and she too is looking to continue her strong form.
British driver Thomas Bearman also took top honours with a Rookie Class win and is looking forward to racing at the Spanish track this coming weekend. “After a strong start to the season in Portimão, I’m feeling confident heading to Valencia,” said the 15-year-old. “After a winter of testing, it was great to put some racing laps together and battle for position.”
Leo Robinson impressed on his Hitech debut in Portimão and he is determined to reach the top step of the podium for this second event in the four-round Formula Winter Series, held at the challenging Ricardo Tormo circuit. “I think qualifying is going to be more important in Valencia than Portimão because I think it might be more difficult to overtake at this track,” said Leo. “I’m expecting it to be another strong weekend for the team.” The Anglo-Algerian racer is tied for second place in the standings on 36 points — 33 points behind the series leader.
With two victories in the Rookie Class, including his outright win in Race 3 at Portimão, Fionn McLaughlin is gearing up for only his second-ever event in Formula 4 machinery. Having graduated from world championship karting, the Red Bull Junior Team driver will use this weekend in Valencia to continue gaining single-seater experience ahead of a full-time campaign with Hitech in British F4 this year.
The action gets underway with Race 1 from Valencia on Saturday morning, followed by two more races on Sunday. Fans can catch all the action on the series’ official YouTube channel.
