Karting driver Oliver Stewart joins Hitech for the 2022 British F4 Championship. The young Scottish racer joins the team making the transition from karting to Britain’s FIA Formula 4 series in Hitech’s first season in a new era for the championship under Motorsport UK’s organisation.
Stewart will graduate to British F4 with the Hitech outfit, after a successful career in karting which saw the 15-year-old take several wins and podium finishes in the 2021 Motorsport UK British Kart Championship, finishing 4th overall in Junior X30. The Scottish driver also claimed British Kart Masters victory and took the British LGM title the same year. Competing in Junior X30, one of the top classes for junior drivers, Stewart’s sheer pace and ability behind the wheel secured him the Vice Champion title at the IAME World Finals. Later in 2021, he was selected for the Richard Mille Young Driver Academy shootout in Spain, one of only twelve drivers from around the world.
This year will see the introduction of the new second-generation FIA F4 car, complete with a Halo-style safety device, reinforced side anti-intrusion panels and on-board safety signalling systems. The British F4 season commences at Donington Park on 23-24 April across ten rounds, and thirty races, with action broadcast live on ITV4.
Speaking of the announcement, Stewart commented:
“I’m overwhelmed by the opportunity I have been given to drive for such a fantastic team as Hitech GP. It has been my dream to race in a car ever since I was a little boy. It’s a huge step and a massive learning curve but I will give it everything and make the most of this fantastic chance I’ve been given. Most importantly I’d like to thank Allan Dallas of Ross-Shire Engineering for making this happen and the countless other people that have helped me to get to this point. I can’t wait to get going with Hitech GP.”
British F4 Team Manager Dominic Stott, added:
“We are excited to welcome Oliver onboard for the 2022 season. He has had some strong results in karting and we want to show what we can do together. We now have a solid driver line-up for the British F4 season and we aim to build on our promising showing in the FIA F4 UAE Championship over the last couple of months.”
